Herald Star Business Briefs: Power of 32, CIC New Members; Friendship Wine & Food Festival
Executive Director Ed Looman available to discuss events, welcomes new CIC members
 

STEUBENVILLE - The Power of 32, a regional visioneering effort for the economic region surrounding Pittsburgh, from Southwestern Pennsylvania into Maryland, West Virginia and Eastern Ohio, is seeking volunteers to lead public gatherings in the 32 involved counties, including Jefferson County.

Persons interested in helping lead a community meeting will be given training later this month.

CIC welcomes new investors to board

STEUBENVILLE - The Community Improvement Corp. has welcomed five new trustees who have made an economic contribution to the work of the corporation.

CIC President Ken Perkins said those joining the public-private group that oversees the work of Progress Alliance, the economic development organization for Jefferson County, include Barium & Chemicals Inc., Something Special By Sheila, the Ohio and Vicinity Regional Council of Carpenters, the Upper Ohio Valley Building and Construction Trades Council and The Laurels of Steubenville.

Perkins said, "Like our other supporters, these new CIC members understand the important role an economic development organization plays in these difficult times. I applaud both our public and private supporters for having pride in our county and for their willingness to provide financial support."

Wine, food fest sponsors needed

SMITHFIELD - Sponsors are being sought for the first Friendship Wine and Food Festival, set for Sept. 10-11 at Friendship Park. The festival will feature products of Ohio wineries and local food purveyors. Artisans will be on hand from the area to display their artistic creations. There will be entertainment and contests.

The event is planned for 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 10 and 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sept. 11.
